The Arkansas Razorbacks picked up a narrow win over UAB in Saturday’s home-opener in Fayetteville despite some uncharacteristic struggles from Travis Williams’ defense.
The Razorback defense looked vulnerable throughout as the well-schemed Blazers’ tallied up 354 total yards, which was 95 more than they gained the week prior in a 32-6 loss to Louisiana Monroe.
Arkansas was flagged for several unnecessary penalties, including three separate face mask penalties that ultimately led to 10 UAB points.

Tackling has been a red flag for Sam Pittman and the defense since the Razorbacks missed 13 tackles in the season opener against UAPB. Those struggles crept back in against the Blazers, who broke 11 would-be tackles at Razorback Stadium on Saturday.
The lack of a pass rush has reached legitimate concern stage after another lackluster effort from the defensive front. Arkansas only logged one sack against a UAB squad that allowed five against a far less talented ULM front. For reference, the Hogs have five total sacks the entire season.
No pressure meant a smooth day at the office for UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno, who threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns on 72 percent completions on the afternoon.
A developing concern to monitor for the defense through three weeks has been a secondary that is allowing over 228 passing yards a game with depth concerns looming due to injuries to starting corner Jaylon Braxton and safety Hudson Clark.
Travis Williams and the defense will have their hands full this week between tightening things up on their own end and preparing for a fast, athletic Auburn team to open up SEC play.
The Razorbacks (2-1) and Tigers (2-1) will kick off from Jordan Hare Stadium at 2:30 p.m. (CT) Saturday afternoon on ESPN.
