Arkansas Falls to No. 8 LSU

The Razorbacks fell to the Tigers (6-1, 3-0 SEC) 34-10 in Fayetteville. The Hogs fall to 4-3, 2-2 SEC on the season.

Summary

The Tigers came out early scoring a touchdown on their first drive of the game and added field goals on the rest of their drives the rest of the first half. The Hogs cut the lead to 13-7 with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Taylen Green to Andrew Armstrong with 8:25 left in the second quarter. However, that would be Arkansas’ only points in the first half, as the Tigers took a 16-7 lead into halftime.

To start the second half, the Razorbacks drove down the field and scored a 51-yard field goal by kicker Matthew Shipley cutting the LSU lead to 16-10. The Hogs defense would get a stop the following drive, but on the first play the on-offense, Green was picked off by LSU linebacker Whit Weeks at the Arkansas two-yard line. The Tigers went on to score 18 unanswered points as the Razorback offense struggled to find its rhythm.

What Went Wrong

The Hogs played sloppy and lost the turnover battle to LSU. The Razorbacks had two fumbles and an interception which turned into 11 points for the Tigers. In all three of the losses this season, the Hogs turned the ball over more than their opponent.

Arkansas struggled to establish the running game against LSU. The Hogs only rushed for 38 yards on 19 attempts, before this game the Arkansas rushing attack averaged 199 yards a game. Without establishing the run, Arkansas was not able to sustain long offensive drives, leaving their defense to be on the field for nearly 39 minutes of the game.

What’s Next

With five games left, including three at home, the Hogs are still in the hunt for bowl eligibility after missing the postseason last year. The Razorbacks will now prepare for their next game, as they hit the road against the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-6, 0-4 SEC) in Starkville on Oct. 26.
