Arkansas Stays Alive in Historic Outing by Gage Wood

Arkansas stayed alive in the College World Series with a 3-0 win over Murray State. Thanks to a historic performance from right-handed pitcher Gage Wood. The Batesville native threw the third no-hitter in College World Series history and came within one hit batter of recording the first perfect game ever on the sport’s biggest stage.

Game Summary

The Razorbacks didn’t need much offense thanks to Wood’s dominance on the mound. He pitched a complete game with 19 strikeouts on 119 pitches. He allowed just one baserunner via a hit-by-pitch in the eighth inning. His outing goes down as one of the greatest in College World Series history.

Offensively, the Hogs collected three runs on 10 hits. Justin Thomas Jr., Charles Davalan and Wehiwa Aloy all had multi-hit games. Davalan opened the scoring with an RBI single that plated Thomas Jr. in the third inning. In the seventh, SEC Player of the Year and Golden Spikes Award finalist Wehiwa Aloy drove in a run with a double down the third base line. A defensive miscue by the Racers allowed another run to score, giving Arkansas a 3-0 lead that held the rest of the way.

Who Stood Out for Arkansas

Wood delivered one of the most memorable performances in Razorback history, striking out 19 of the 28 batters he faced. Beyond his individual milestone, his dominance gave Arkansas a massive advantage by preserving the rest of the pitching staff for the remainder of the tournament.

Thomas Jr. had a perfect day at the plate, going 4 for 4 and scoring a key run. Davalan and Aloy each added two hits and an RBI in a game where every base runner mattered.

Looking Ahead for Arkansas
