Arkansas (3-1, 1-0 SEC) defeated Auburn (2-2, 0-1 SEC) 24-14 on Sept. 21 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala. In a low scoring game filled with sloppy offensive possessions, the Hogs were able to force five turnovers in the road victory against the Tigers.
The first half consisted of five turnovers between both teams and the Hogs entered halftime with a 7-0 lead. The offenses were able to clean up their mistakes in the second half, with each team only turning the ball over only once.
Taylen Green finished the game by completing 12 of his 27 pass attempts for 151 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. He also led the Razorbacks in rushing, tallying 80 yards on 18 carries. With the game tied 7-7, Green had arguably the play of the game connecting with wide receiver Isaiah Satenga for a 58-yard touchdown pass with 2:03 left in the third quarter to give the Hogs a 14-7 lead.
Running back Ja’Quinden Jackson, the SEC leading rusher, had a quiet night for his standard this season. Only recording 75 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. He sealed the game for the Hogs with a goal line touchdown to put them up 24-14 with 3:38 remaining in the game.
After the Hogs’ defense forced three interceptions from Auburn quarterback Hank Brown, the Tigers replaced him with former starting QB Payton Thorne. Thorne passed for 213 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
The Arkansas defense made crucial plays when it mattered most. Although the Tigers had nearly 100 more yards than the Hogs, the Arkansas defense only gave up 14 points. The Razorbacks had three defenders with interceptions in this game TJ Metcalf, Jayden Johnson, and Doneiko Slaughter. Metcalf, who made a big interception late in the game last week against UAB led the team with two picks in this game.
The Razorbacks will now look ahead to their next matchup against the No. 25 Texas A&M Aggies at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX on Sept. 28.
