Arkansas Wins Thrilling Opening SEC Series Against Ole Miss

Arkansas entered the weekend with a 16-1 record and a No. 3 national ranking, and after dropping the series opener, the Razorbacks responded to win the final two games in dramatic fashion.

Series Summary

Game One

Ole Miss came out hot at the plate, scoring in each of the first six innings against Arkansas. Kuhio Aloy had some success against the Rebels, going 3 for 5 at the plate, but Ole Miss continued to add runs while the Hogs were unable to rally. The Rebels ended the Razorbacks’ 12-game winning streak with a 10-6 victory in Oxford.

Game Two

Both teams scored in the first inning, but Ole Miss took a 2-1 lead as both starting pitchers settled in. The Razorbacks’ offense erupted in the fifth inning with back-to-back-to-back home runs from Charles Davalan, Wehiwa Aloy, and Kuhio Aloy. Arkansas plated eight runs in the inning and added three more in the ninth to secure a 12-3 win and even the series.

Game Three

Ole Miss built an early 4-0 lead in the rubber match, but Arkansas chipped away and took a 7-5 advantage into the seventh inning. The Rebels responded, reclaiming the lead at 9-8 entering the ninth. With two outs and two runners on, Davalan hit a game-tying single before Wehiwa Aloy launched a three-run homer in the next at-bat to propel the Hogs to a 12-9 win and a series victory.

Who Stood Out Arkansas

Wehiwa Aloy had a quiet first two games, recording only one hit a solo home run but delivered in the series finale. He went 3 for 5 in Game 3 with five RBI and two home runs, including the go-ahead three-run shot in the ninth to seal the win.

Charles Davalan was consistent at the plate, going 8 for 17 with six RBI in the series. He came through in the clutch, tying the game in the ninth inning of Game 3 with two outs.

Gabe Gaeckle struggled early in Game 2, allowing two runs in the first inning, but rebounded to throw four strong innings, giving up just one hit while striking out eight. After moving from the Friday night starter role to Saturday, he had the best outing among Arkansas’ starters.

Looking Ahead for Arkansas

The Razorbacks return to Fayetteville to host Oral Roberts for a two-game midweek series at Baum-Walker Stadium.
