After an offensive onslaught by both teams, Ole Miss was able to hold off Arkansas late to secure a 41-35 victory Saturday in Oxford. The Hogs had a chance in the final minutes to take the lead, but the Rebels’ defense stood tall to close out the win.
Game Summary
Arkansas came out firing, as quarterback Taylen Green connected with tight end Jaden Platt for a 34-yard gain on the opening drive. The offense stalled, however, and a missed 51-yard field goal kept the game scoreless. That opened the door for a wild second quarter where both teams traded blows. The Rebels scored 24 points in the period, while the Hogs added 21. Ole Miss carried a 31-28 lead into halftime.
The back-and-forth continued as both quarterbacks showcased dual-threat ability. Green threw for 305 yards and a touchdown while adding 115 rushing yards and another score. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, making his first Division I start, threw for 353 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 62 yards and two more scores.
Arkansas’ defense came up with a crucial stop late, giving the offense a chance to take the lead. The Hogs drove inside the Ole Miss 30-yard line, but a costly fumble with under two minutes left allowed the Rebels to run out the clock and seal the win.
Who Stood Out for the Hogs
Green carried the offense, finishing with 420 total yards and two touchdowns. His 115 rushing yards led all players, averaging 8.2 yards per carry. Wide receiver O’Mega Blake once again served as Green’s top target, finishing with six catches for 81 yards and a 30-yard touchdown.
Areas of Concern
Arkansas’ defense struggled to slow down Chambliss, who looked comfortable in his debut. The Hogs recorded just one sack and four tackles for loss, allowing Ole Miss to move the ball consistently. Special teams miscues also proved costly, as Arkansas missed field goals from 51 and 49 yards. In a one-possession game, those misses loomed large.
Looking Ahead for the Hogs
Arkansas stays on the road next week, traveling to Memphis to face the Tigers on Sept. 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CST.
