Hoop Hogs Take Down No. 14 Michigan

Arkansas defeated No. 14 Michigan 89-87 in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. In a back-and-forth game, the Hogs held off the Wolverines late for their first ranked win of the season.

Game Summary

The Hogs and Wolverines traded baskets for the first 10 minutes of the game until Michigan pulled away, leading by 15 points with 6:27 left in the first half. Arkansas clawed back and trailed by one point with 30 seconds remaining, but Michigan hit a 3-pointer to take a 49-45 lead into halftime. Arkansas shot 51.5% from the field, 36.4% from 3-point range, and 87.5% from the free-throw line. The Wolverines shot extremely well in the first half, making 61.3% of their field goals, 58.3% of their 3-pointers, and 80% of their free throws.

The Razorbacks came out strong in the second half. With 10:15 left in the game, freshman Karter Knox made a layup to put the Hogs up 78-60. Michigan fought back, cutting the lead to one possession with 1:39 remaining. Trevon Brazile made a defensive stand, blocking a shot, grabbing the rebound, and hitting a free throw to give the Hogs a two-point lead with 14 seconds left. The Hogs held on for the 89-87 win.

Who Stood Out for the Hogs

Boogie Fland stuffed the stat sheet in his return home to New York. He led the Hogs in scoring and assists, finishing with 20 points, seven assists, two steals, and one rebound. He shot 6-for-18 from the field, 2-for-7 from 3-point range, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

DJ Wagner had one of his best performances in a Hog uniform. He finished with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and knocked down 2 of 3 3-pointers. Wagner also added five assists and three rebounds.

Trevon Brazile made a potentially game-saving play with his late block, rebound, and free throw. He finished with 15 points, six rebounds, three steals, an assist, and a block in 26 minutes.

Looking Forward

The Hogs will return to Arkansas but will take on Central Arkansas in Simmons Bank Arena in Little Rock at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14.
