Sam Pittman Met with the Media Ahead of Mississippi State

After a disappointing 34-10 to the LSU Tigers, the Hogs will look forward to traveling to Starkville, Miss., to take on Mississippi State. Head coach Sam Pittman mentioned key injury updates for the Razorbacks and player updates.

Injury Updates

Pittman addressed the status of running back Ja’Quinden Jackson, who rushed for over 100 yards in the first three games of the season but has struggled during SEC play. “His health status is very questionable for Saturday’s game,” Pittman said. “He’s been a strong guy for us, and hopefully, we can get him back.” Jackson has been the team’s lead back this season and has played a crucial role in their success.

Defensive back Jaylon Braxton, who has not played since the Oklahoma State game due to injury, was also not listed on this week’s depth chart. “I don’t think he’ll be available,” Pittman said. “I think it would be after at least the second bye week.” Last season, Braxton, as a freshman, recorded 21 tackles, eight passes defended, a forced fumble, and an interception. He remains eligible for a redshirt as long as he doesn’t play in more than three more games this season.

Player Updates

Offensive lineman Patrick Kutas has missed every game this season, though he was projected to start before suffering an injury in the offseason. “Obviously, we’re trying to redshirt him if we can,” Pittman said. “That means we’re going to get four games out of him.” With five regular-season games remaining, Kutas could play in most of the remaining games and still retain an extra year of eligibility.

Quarterback Taylen Green has improved over the last two games, increasing his completion percentage and avoiding scrambling as frequently. “I think his confidence is growing in the offense,” Pittman said. “Playing quarterback for Bobby [Petrino] is very difficult, but it’s also very rewarding.” In the last three games, Green has passed for over 200 yards and currently ranks fourth in the SEC in passing yards.

With Ja’Quinden Jackson’s status uncertain, Pittman expressed confidence in true freshman running back Braylen Russell. “I think it’s time to saddle up Braylen Russell,” Pittman said. “He’s ready to go. I met with him this morning and said, ‘Hey, man, if you want it, go take it.'” In addition to Russell, the Razorbacks will rely on running backs Rashod Dubinion and Rodney Hill.

Arkansas will face the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville on Oct. 26, with kickoff set for 11:45 a.m. CST.
