This is just shameful. I always felt like Texas A&M was a school of faith and character. But after this absolute egregious behavior by the Aggies, I just don’t know if I can ever gain my respect back for them.
Faking injuries in the year of our Lord 2025 during a college football game? I’m so disappointed. What has happened to our beloved sport?
For those who are wondering, here is the play in question where Aggie DB Tyreek Chappell fakes an injury to try & get a free timeout while Arkansas was driving late in the game.
The SEC also released their full review & explaination of their decision to issue the $50,000 fine.
“After the ball is spotted by officials, No. 7 for Texas A&M goes to the ground, creating the appearance of an injury. Just prior to the player going down, a Texas A&M staff member can be seen in the video standing in the team area near the 25-yard line signaling demonstratively to the player, pointing to the ground. It was noted that the Texas A&M player had no contact during the play and returned to the game on the second play of the ensuing defensive possession.“
Just disgusting behavior. On top of all of that, Texas A&M officially released this statement:
“We do not agree with the decision and want to be clear that we never coach or instruction our players to feign injury.”
Well, actually, you do. You literally do. You were caught on video by the SEC doing it.
Of course maybe I am wrong. Maybe that staffer that was signaling the Aggie to go down to the ground went rogue. Decided to take matters into his own hands and say to himself “I am going to do my part in helping Coach Elko win this game by getting a free timeout while the Hogs are driving.”
Seems legit to me.
Also, let’s be honest here. We ALL know that players fake injuries and have been faking injuries for years (you can thank Lane Kiffing & Gus Malzahn for that). It’s become so sad to hear home fans boo an opposing player from the defense whenever the home offense is driving. I don’t blame the fans for that anymore. Just sucks that it has to be that way.
But the next coach that will ever admit that they instructed a player to fake an injury will be the first one.
Do better Texas A&M. You are ruining the sacred sport of college football. Well, that on top of everything else weird you do.
My favorite thing about all of this is seeing Aggie fans irate that this happened to them & how the SEC screwed them over. Enjoy:
