Arkansas wide receiver Tyrone Broden opened fall camp with a bang Wednesday afternoon with an impressive one-handed catch that quickly went viral as it circulated on social media.
“The only thing that was a ‘wow, wow’ was Broden caught a heck of a pass, a one-handed grab, early in practice,” Sam Pittman said following Arkansas’ first practice of the fall.
Broden, a 6-7 redshirt senior, started four games with 15 catches for 109 yards and three touchdowns for Arkansas last year.
After an impressive spring, Broden picked up right where he left off on Wednesday as he continues to position himself for a starting wide receiver position opposite Andrew Armstrong.
“I thought it was pretty special,” Pittman said. “We’ve all been to practices where somebody makes a play like that and there’s not a whole lot… you know. They don’t like the guy or it’s just when are we going to get out of practice?
“But there was a whole bunch of guys, including Taylen, that ran down there and patted him on the back. It was a heck of a play, and I look forward to many more of those.”
Broden is one of 11 Razorbacks to clock a sprint time of faster than 22 miles per hour. Coupled with his long, athletic frame, he profiles as a frequent target for new starting quarterback Taylen Green.
“I saw him in man coverage,” Green said. “I love my guys in man coverage, and they tell me all the time just throw it up and I’m going to make a play, which he did.
“It set the tone for the whole practice. I had to go celebrate with him in the end zone. We are always having fun.”
Arkansas opens up the 2024 campaign against UAPB on Thursday, August 29 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT).
