The Hogs, coming off a bye week and major coaching changes, will head to Knoxville to face No. 12 Tennessee. The Vols present a tough challenge for Arkansas, particularly in the areas where the Hogs have struggled most this season.
Hogs Need the Defense to Show Improvement
So far this season, the Hogs are giving up 30 points per game and allowing 425 yards per contest, both of which rank last in the SEC. That’s a troubling stat heading into a matchup with a Tennessee team that leads the conference in both passing yards per game and total points per game. While expecting a complete defensive turnaround might be unrealistic, Arkansas’ new staff structure could lead to incremental improvements. Even small steps forward could make a difference in keeping the game within reach.
Hogs Need to Create Turnovers
The Razorbacks haven’t consistently forced turnovers this season, which has cost them in close games. To upset a top-15 opponent on the road, the defense must find ways to disrupt the Vols’ offensive rhythm and take the ball away. Tennessee’s offense ranks among the top five in the SEC, so creating short fields for the Arkansas offense will be crucial to keeping the pressure on throughout the game.
Hogs Need a Consistent Offense
Under interim head coach Bobby Petrino, the Hogs have proven capable of explosive offensive performances behind quarterback Taylen Green. However, consistency has been an issue. In their last outing against Notre Dame, the offense managed just 13 points and never found a rhythm. To compete with Tennessee, the Hogs will need to sustain drives, finish in the red zone, and limit costly mistakes. The good news is that Tennessee’s defense has struggled through the air, ranking last in the SEC in passing yards allowed per game. That could provide an opportunity for Green and the offense to get back on track.
What It Means
This game will be a major test for Petrino in his return to leading the Hogs. A strong showing in Knoxville could reignite momentum for the rest of the season and help restore confidence in a team searching for direction. If Arkansas can show growth on defense and capitalize offensively, the Hogs could make this matchup far more competitive than expected.
