Arkansas and Central Arkansas Set to Battle in North Little Rock

Arkansas will host in-state opponent Central Arkansas at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock on Dec. 14. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST.

Previewing Central Arkansas

Central Arkansas is playing its third consecutive in-state matchup. On Dec. 4, the Bears lost to Little Rock 63-57, followed by an 84-78 loss to UAPB on Dec. 7. As a team, Central Arkansas struggles with shooting efficiency, averaging 39% from the field, 27.7% from 3-point range, and 70.8% from the free-throw line.

The Bears rank fifth in the ASUN Conference with 14.8 assists per game, led by Brayden Fagbemi, who averages 5.2 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Freshman Layne Taylor, a Farmington, Arkansas, native, has been Central Arkansas’ standout player this season. He leads the team in scoring and steals, averaging 17 points and 2.1 steals per game. Taylor recorded one of his best performances in a loss to UAPB, scoring 25 points while shooting 7 of 14 from the field and 6 of 12 from 3-point range.

Previewing Arkansas

Arkansas enters the matchup after its biggest win of the season, an 89-87 victory against Michigan in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Razorbacks had five players score in double figures, with guards Boogie Fland and DJ Wagner combining for 36 points and 12 assists to lead the comeback.

The Razorbacks are beginning to show their full potential as the team returns to health. Despite feeling under the weather, Adou Thiero contributed 13 points, four rebounds, and a steal in 22 minutes.

Big man Jonas Aidoo made his first significant appearance of the season following offseason injuries, recording 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Forward Trevon Brazile, who also dealt with early-season injuries, had his best game of the year with 15 points, six rebounds, three steals, one assist, and a game-clinching block.
