Arkansas is coming off a weekend sweep of Vanderbilt in Nashville and will return to the Natural State. Instead of playing at Baum-Walker Stadium, the Razorbacks will host Grambling State at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. This will be the second meeting between the teams this season.
Previewing Grambling
The Razorbacks run-ruled Grambling 14-3 in seven innings on Feb. 25 in Fayetteville. The Tigers, now 10-16, have lost their last two games against Jackson State. In their first matchup against Arkansas, Grambling recorded just four hits, with no player collecting more than one. On the mound, six Tigers pitchers combined to allow at least one run each in seven innings.
At this point in the season, Grambling is hitting .277 as a team with a .412 on-base percentage, a slight drop from the first meeting. Chenar Brown leads the team in batting average at .322 and is second in home runs with four. The Tigers’ pitching staff has struggled, posting a 10.41 team ERA while allowing opponents to hit .325. Grambling has also issued 181 walks while recording just 165 strikeouts.
Previewing Arkansas
Arkansas has had a strong start to the season, now sitting at 26-3. In the last game against Grambling, eight Razorbacks recorded hits, while six finished with at least one RBI. Arkansas’ pitching staff held the Tigers to four hits and struck out seven batters. The Razorbacks will look to bounce back in midweek games after dropping one to Missouri State in extra innings last week.
Tate McGuire will make his first start of the season against Grambling. In 11 1/3 innings, he has a 3.97 ERA, allowing eight hits while striking out nine. Offensively, Arkansas has been dominant at the plate, hitting .324 as a team with a .434 on-base percentage. The Razorbacks have eight batters hitting over .350, with Charles Davalan and Cam Kozeal leading the team in batting average. Seven Arkansas players have hit at least five home runs, while nine have reached double-digit RBI totals.
