Arkansas Falls to Missouri State in Baum-Walker

The No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks end their 18-game midweek winning streak after a 14-13 loss in extra innings against Missouri State. The Hogs now sit at 23-3 on the season and will hit the road to take on Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Game Summary

Missouri State jumped out ahead early with a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning. In the home half of the fourth the Hogs got on the board in a big way and added five runs to take the lead after a grand slam from Gabe Fraser. In the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings the Hogs kept adding runs. Arkansas built a 13-8 lead heading into the ninth inning, but the Bears rallied with five runs to force extras before Nick Rodriguez’s second home run of the night put Missouri State ahead for good in the 10th. Arkansas had one final chance in the bottom half but was unable to bring home the tying run, suffering its third loss of the season.

Despite the defeat, the Razorbacks’ offense remained red hot, producing 13 runs on 16 hits, including five doubles and a grand slam by Fraser. The pitching staff struck out a season-high 19 batters, including a career-high seven consecutive strikeouts by true freshman Cole Gibler, but could not contain Missouri State’s late surge.

On the mound, starter Colin Fisher struck out a career high-tying six batters over three innings, while Cole Gibler was electric in relief, fanning a career-high seven over 2.1 innings.
