Hogs Fall Short Against Texas A&M

The Hogs lit up the scoreboard, but it wasn’t enough to take down No. 4 Texas A&M. Once again, Arkansas outgained its opponent offensively, but defensive struggles kept the Razorbacks on the wrong side of another one-possession game.

Game Summary

Things were on the brink of getting out of hand in the first half as the Aggies scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, taking a 21-6 lead in the second quarter. The Hogs didn’t back down, responding with two touchdowns and forcing Texas A&M’s first punt before halftime. That left Arkansas trailing by just one point as the teams entered the break with the Aggies up 21-20.

The start of the second half looked much like the first, with Texas A&M scoring on every drive in the third quarter. Still, the Razorbacks clawed their way back and refused to quit. Despite putting up 42 points, the Hogs fell short in a 45-42 loss to the Aggies.

Takeaways for the Hogs

The Arkansas offense looked impressive against a talented Texas A&M defense, especially running back Mike Washington Jr. He rushed for 147 yards on 16 carries, including a 57-yard burst. Quarterback Taylen Green showed flashes of brilliance despite some inconsistency, throwing for 256 yards and three touchdowns while adding 85 rushing yards and two more scores. Wide receiver O’Mega Blake had his first 100-yard receiving game since the opener against Alabama A&M, finishing with seven catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. Offensively, the Hogs continue to prove they can hang with nearly anyone.

Defensively, however, the Razorbacks still have plenty of issues. This marked the fifth straight game Arkansas has allowed over 475 yards of offense. Even with their high-powered attack, the defensive woes continue to cost them. Texas A&M punted only twice in the game, and the Hogs failed to force a turnover for the fourth straight week.

Looking Ahead for the Hogs

For the first time since the Week 4 matchup at Memphis, the Hogs will face an unranked opponent. Arkansas will host Auburn on Oct. 25 at Razorback Stadium, seeking its first SEC win of the season.
