Razorbacks’ Struggles Continue with Loss to LSU

The Razorbacks lost 78-74 on the road against LSU, marking their fourth consecutive loss since beginning SEC play.

“I got to do a better job with my team,” head coach John Calipari said. “This is the third or fourth game we get up 12, and all of a sudden, you turn around and it’s, you know.”

Game Summary

Both teams struggled to get any offense going to start the game. The first points of the game weren’t scored until a layup by Karter Knox at the 16:59 mark in the first half. The Razorbacks’ offense seemed to be clicking and were up 28-16 with 7:02 left in the first. The Tigers did claw their way back in the closing minutes of the first half, and the Razorbacks went into halftime only up 36-34.

“At the end of the half again,” Calipari said, “we fouled, we gave up offensive rebounds, and all of a sudden they close the gap, and it’s a two-point game.”

In the second half, both teams went on runs. Arkansas, at the 11:47 mark in the second half, took an eight-point lead, but their offense became inconsistent. The Tigers took advantage, and with 4:50 remaining in the game, LSU got their largest lead of the game at 66-57. Arkansas fought back, and with 21 seconds left, it was a two-point ball game, but the Tigers eventually held on for a 78-74 victory over the Razorbacks.

Who Stood Out for the Razorbacks

Boogie Fland had his best performance since starting conference play. He led the team in points with 19 on 6 of 17 shooting from the field, 3 of 5 from three-point range, and 4 for 4 from the foul line. Fland also had a team-high five assists, a rebound, and a steal.

Jonas Aidoo and Adou Thiero both recorded double-doubles in this game. Aidoo had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and a team-high four blocks, while Thiero ended the game with 13 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.

“Both teams fought,” Calipari said. “We got to finish off the game at some point.”

Looking Ahead

Arkansas will stay on the road and head to Columbia, Missouri, to take on Mizzou on Jan. 18, with tipoff set for 5 p.m. on SEC Network.
