Sam Pittman Previews LSU Game and Provides Injury Updates

On Monday, head coach Sam Pittman met with the media leading up to another home game against a top 10 opponent with the No. 8 LSU Tigers coming to Fayetteville on Oct. 19.

Injury Report

In the Hogs’ big win against Tennessee quarterback Taylen Green went down with an injury in the fourth quarter, only to return for one play before going back to the sideline. “We’re hopeful that he’ll be ready to go,” Pittman said. “We’ll have to wait and see a little bit more, probably know about Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Pittman is also optimistic about offensive lineman Patrick Kutas. “Kutas will practice this week,” Pittman said. “Hopefully he’ll be ready on Saturday.” The Hogs have been without Kutas all season. He started nine games last season and was expected to be a starter on this year’s Razorback offensive line.

Defensive back Jaylen Braxton and running back Rodney Hill are looking doubtful for this matchup against the Tigers. “Braxton, I don’t think he’ll be ready this week,” Pittman said. “And probably Rodney Hill will be out as well.” Hill has not played in a game since Texas A&M on Sept. 28, and Braxton hasn’t played since the Oklahoma State game on Sept. 7.

Previewing LSU

Pittman emphasized that LSU wants to throw the football, and it will be crucial for the Hogs to stop the run and put pressure on quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. The Tigers’ offensive line have been impressive and one of the best in the country, allowing Nussmeier to be sacked only twice this season. Pittman said it is important for the Hogs’ defense to limit the LSU offense on first down. He also highlighted wide receiver Kyren Lacy, who had five receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown in the win against the Rebels.

During the press conference, Pittman also had high praise for the LSU defense, especially at the linebacker position, which played a large part in the Tigers win against the Ole Miss Rebels last week. The Hogs will need to play physically and smart against a much-improved LSU defense compared to last season. Pittman believes this game will be another close one, as the last four games between the Hogs and Tigers have been decided by three points.
